Weekend Ahead: July 30 – August 2

GO TO A GARDEN PARTY – Garden Nights at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
I have a penchant for really girly, pretty dresses. Think Mad-Men-meets-Donna-Reed. I love the full skirt, the nipped waist and I’ve even been known to want to pair such designs with pearls, pumps and a bouncy, waved ‘do. That is, if I ever actually bought any of these frocks and brought them home. What stops me is this conversation I have with myself in the dressing room, “Jennifer Lyn, where on God’s green earth are you going to wear this? Do you have a plethora of garden parties to go to that you haven’t bothered to tell your conscious self about?” Well, booyah. Now I have a garden party to go to at the gorgeous Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont.

SCREAM FOR GLAMBERT – American Idol’s LIVE! at Time Warner Cable Arena
I don’t watch American Idol, but I do read US Weekly and, like, walk, breathe and live, so I am aware of the anticipation surrounding this tour of the Top Ten Idol contestants from this past season. Personally, I’d rather watch people sing karaoke in a bar where I don’t have to pay to get in and there is wine available, but to each his own. Go ahead, Lambert fans, squeal your heads off.
Saturday, July 1, 7pm. Tickets available at www.ticketmaster.com

PITCH ONE FOR THE PUPS – Bags for Wags Humane Society Fundraiser
I keep thinking there is a joke to be made that involves “corn hole” and “Thirsty Beaver”, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it is a joke that probably doesn’t belong on this blog. Nevertheless, there is a corn hole tournament being held at The Thirsty Beaver, and proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte. Custom cornhole boards will be up for auction! $40 per team to play. Email littlepagej@mvalaw.com to register.
Saturday, July 1, 2pm.

TRACK DOWN TREASURES – International Antiques and Collectibles Show at Metrolina Expo
You may not think your abode is missing anything – until you step foot onto the sprawling grounds of the Metrolina Expo and discover the amazing offerings of retro, antique, mid-century, farm-inspired, hand-made, lovingly collected, MUST-HAVE items that are on display and up for sale at this unmissable show. You will not leave empty handed, and if you don’t have an SUV, you’ll probably want to borrow one.
July 30-August 2; Thurs-Sat 9am-5pm. Sunday 10am-4pm.
