Weekend Ahead: October 2-4

Saturday is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 79. We’re talking perfect breezy fall day (knock on wood). So, just in case you needed another excuse to attend the Great Grapes festival at Symphony Park, there it is. The event includes live music, great food, and the chance to taste hundreds of North Carolina wines. (Although, maybe don’t taste hundreds of wines. That will kill you. But you know what we mean.) For details go to www.uncorkthefun.com

RACE (for the cure)
Tomorrow morning is the 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. And you should be there. Designed to promote positive awareness of breast cancer, the event raises money to fund for the fight against breast cancer. With more than 11,000 participants already signed up, this promises to be a fun race. You can still register tomorrow (non competitive only) beginning at 6:30 a.m. For more details go to www.charlotte.info-komen.org

GROW (a beard)
Tomorrow night, local charity BeardsBeCAUSE is throwing their annual Clean Shaven Party at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille to kick off two months of facial hair growth for a great cause. The charity benefits the United Family Services’ Shelter for Battered Women and was founded by two local guys with a great idea for how to help out. Tomorrow night’s party features musical performances from John Dungan, Pistoleros, and Dr. Eu and Subdue’s. It’s $5 to get in. Go to www.beardsbecause.com for more info.

(That is, after all, what this blog is about, right?) So, here are two spots you should hit this weekend: Sloan and Step by Sloan in Dilworth are offering 20% off everything in the store through Saturday. There’s a pair of BCBG boots at Step by Sloan I’ve been wanting for some time now. If you’re going wild during your shopping spree there this weekend, feel free to buy them for me. I’m a size 9.5. Just up the street Cottage Chic is having a great sale on bedding. You can take 25% off any bedding in stock or special orders through October 15th. Happy shopping!
