Weekend Ahead: September 12-14

What we think everyone should be doing this weekend.

RELAX
The weather is beautiful (or at least it is supposed to be this weekend) and the Sunset Jazz festival is free, so there’s no reason not to pull out that “end of summer” sundress, get out in the sunshine, and enjoy listening to jazz artists including Sweet Dreams and Michael Porter at Symphony Park at SouthPark mall. 2:30 to 9:30 pm. September 13.

WATCH
There are fashion icons and then there is Coco Chanel, the glamorous French designer who changed the face of fashion forever. Her story, played by Shirley MacLain, premiers on Lifetime at 8 p.m. September 13.

EAT
Chow down on that favorite southern dish while you listen to southern tunes at the Blues, Brews & BBQ festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. There are plenty of contests, entertainment, and ’cue—and best of all, the festival is free. North Tryon between 6th and 11th streets. September 12 and 13.

LISTEN
Rock on with the musical duo Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of The Indigo Girls at 8 pm at the Neighborhood Theatre. Tickets are $32. September 14.

RAFT
At this weekend’s Whitewater Festival you can run, walk, bike or raft to your heart’s content. Or, you can just enjoy the great outdoors at the U.S. National Whitewater Center and watch other people do all that other stuff.
September 13.

GROOVE
Grammy-nominated soul singer Musiq Soulchild is debuting songs from his most recent album Luvanmusiq in his only Carolina appearance at Amos’ Southend. The show starts at 8:30 pm. September 12.
