I’m lamenting the end of Labor Day and the return to reality, but one thing makes this 4-day work week MUCH sweeter: Charlotte’s biggest fashion parties are taking place! Fashion’s Night Out, a fashion world phenomenon put together by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, VOGUE, NYC & Company and the city of New York a few years ago as a salute to local shopping in a time of economic strife, has taken the globe by storm (international celebrations as far as Turkey, Britain, Australia, China and Greece), and made its first debut in Charlotte a couple of years ago. The success was so great that our city has decided to make the salute an annual affair.  So, are you ready to put on your Thursday’s best and party? There will be several style shindigs happening simultaneously, so here’s a breakdown of the different participating sponsors of FNO, all on Thursday night, September 8:

Neiman Marcus

Where: Neiman Marcus, South Park Mall

When: 6:30 p.m. (Thursday)

What: Neiman Marcus fall trends runway show, a special guest appearance by designer Craig Taylor, trunk shows and beauty artistry events to the tune of a DJ; hors d’oeuvres and cocktails compliments of Cowfish Burger Sushi Bar

Benefits: Dress for Success Charlotte (all proceeds)

Hendrick Motors of Charlotte — Mercedes Benz and Effie Loukas (owner of Lotus Boutique)

Where: Charlotte Metropolitan (1224 Metropolitan Ave)

When: 6 p.m. (Thursday), but the runway show starts at 7; all participating stores will be hosting in-store celebrations with shoppers’ incentives during regular daytime hours

What: More than 23 local boutiques (like Revolution, Lavendar, Chezelle, Revolve, J.T. Posh, Monarch, Shine Salon, Salon Vivace, Modern Salon+Spa, Dolce Luss0, and Cigi Guzman), salons and designers showcasing fall looks on a 60-foot runway; bars and lounges set up for refreshments; following the show, all participating restaurants will open their doors to attendees for after-parties

Benefits: Zero-Cancer Great Prostate Challenge 2011 (all proceeds)

Where: Belk, South Park Mall and Carolina Place Mall

When: 5 p.m.

What: Belk runway fashion; music, champagne, catered hors d’oeuvres and confections from Georgetown Cupcakes of Washington, DC; those who spend $75 or more on merchandise will receive a personally monogrammed silver compact mirror, plus an opportunity to win a trip for two to the Clarins Spa in New York City

Fee: Free to the public

NC Music Factory

Where: NC Music Factory (935 N. Graham St)

When: 6 p.m. (Thursday)

What: Fashion runway show across the outdoor fountain plaza, featuring fall goods from local boutiques, salons and designers on more than 30 models; a special guest appearance by Samantha Busch, wife of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch; DJs Ahuff and Eduoard Ciprian; an open bar, offering complimentary Peroni beer and hors d’oeuvres compliments of Bask on Seaboard; swag bags and a $1500 gift bag raffle; after-party at Butter NC (at NC Music Factory) with a surprise performer (FNO admission also gets you Butter NC admission)

Benefits: The American Cancer Society (a portion of proceeds)
