Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!: There's A Party In My City!
Hit Nickelodeon show (and the thousand exclamation points that come with it) headed to Charlotte on Sunday night
The Teletubbies have been reincarnated with a serious urban edge in the form of DJ Lance Rock, Brobee, Jodee, Foofa, and Plex (the robot)—the cast of Nickelodeon’s hit show, Yo Gabba Gabba! The show, hosted and narrated by DJ Lance Rock (you’ll be able to tell him from the giant orange ‘fro wig he wears), premiered in 2007, and has released two hit kids’ albums with wild, pop, rock, and hip hop songs like "Party In My Tummy" and "I Like To Dance." There’s even rumors of a Yo Gabba Gabba! movie in the works.
Their second-ever live tour, with the grammatically questionable title Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!: There’s a Party in my City!, is stopping in Charlotte Sunday night at the Ovens Auditorium, and trust us, a quiet puppet show this will not be. Their live shows require plenty of audience interaction (namely singing and energetic dancing), and features a surprise special guest star. We won’t speculate as to who, but past guests have included The Roots, Sarah Silverman, and, while we can’t believe he got invited onto a childrens’ show, Snoop Dogg.
Bonus: there will be a kid-friendly beat boxing lesson from 1980’s hip hop star Biz Markie. We can just hear the "oom-cha! oom-cha!" in the car ride home, now.
See here for more details, but in the meantime, check out this completely insane clip to get an idea of the show’s energy level.
