#InstabeerupCLT, Roaring Riot can release, Boozy Brunch at Sycamore & more

Roaring Riot rye pale ale will be available in cans and on draft at NoDa Brewing's taproom beginning Friday at noon.

THURSDAY

–It’s time for another installment of #instabeerupCLT, and this month’s is at Charlotte’s newest brewery, Salud Cerveceria. As always, the cost is free, so go out, make some friends and try some new and unique beers from head brewer Adam Glover. The festivities begin at 6 p.m., and Salud Beer Shop will be open as well downstairs, along with Fūd at Salud if you need a bite to eat.

FRIDAY

–If you just crawled out from under a Charlotte rock, this week marked the official start of Panthers training camp. Fans are excited with hopes for a Super Bowl season, and local beer fans can share in that enthusiasm with the release of Roaring Riot cans at NoDa Brewing Company.

Created in partnership with Roaring Riot, the “unofficial” fan club/union of the Panthers, this beer made its debut last year, and was an immediate hit, both at the brewery and the RR tailgates all season. So it was a no-brainer to bring it back.

This rye pale ale will once again be available in 4-pack cans to go or on draft at the taproom. Also expect it to be pouring (alongside other NoDa beers) at Roaring Riot’s tailgates during home games this year. NoDa Brewing is even opening early Friday at noon, so take a long lunch break and get your hands (paws?) on these cans.

–Custom Home Pubs is one of the city’s original craft shops and has been around long before the local craft boom hit Charlotte. They began in Sharon Corners, later moved out to the Charlotte/Matthews border on East Independence Boulevard and currently are settled in the Sardis Crossing shopping center. For 10 years, the shop has been serving homebrewers and craft beer lovers alike and is throwing a party Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to commemorate the anniversary.

As part of the celebration, CHP is doing a “Best of Charlotte” lineup that includes special kegs from local breweries such as white oak barrel-aged Juicy Jay IPA from Legion Brewing, Vanilla Krash the Kremlin stout from Unknown Brewing, bourbon barrel-aged Frost Warning dunkelweizen from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and more. In total, the shop will have 14 different beers from Charlotte and area breweries, as well as Foothills’ Sexual Chocolate and Sierra Nevada’s Cuz I Said So, a coffee IPA.

Tickets are $20 plus tax ($21.45 total) and can be purchased at the store or by calling (704) 315-5223. Your ticket gets you unlimited samples of all beers along with a commemorative 10th anniversary snifter from Custom Home Pubs.

–If you can’t get to the beach, bring the beach to you. That’s the idea behind Unknown Brewing’s latest event, “By the Boardwalk.” Channeling its best Myrtle Beach experience, Unknown will have mini-golf, waterslides, live music and an airbrush machine to create your favorite (or tackiest?) T-shirt or front license plate.

Unknown will also be releasing its Let’s Get Tropical IPA (which is dry-hopped with coconut), and as part of the Friday Night Festival, the brewery is showing “Jaws” on the big screen outside after sunset.

SATURDAY

–Blue Blaze Brewing has reached 100 unique beers in just a little over a year, and is throwing a party to celebrate. The brewery’s 100th beer is a Smores blonde ale, and you can try that and other beers beginning at noon Saturday. River Ratz bluegrass band will perform from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Archie Boys BBQ food truck onsite as well.

SUNDAY

–This Sunday is the first where you can buy alcohol at 10 a.m. instead of noon, thanks to legislature first signed by Gov. Roy Cooper and then locally enacted by the Charlotte city council this week. Many breweries and local beer bars are taking advantage of the new hours (some immediately, some beginning football season – see all the information here), including Sycamore Brewing, which is wasting no time in hosting the “First Ever Sunday Boozy Brunch.”

Beginning at 10 a.m., Sycamore’s taps will be flowing, and you’ll also be able to get mimosas (the official brunch drink). Tin Kitchen is curating a special brunch menu for the occasion, there will be live music outside in the beer garden and for those who prefer working for their alcohol, N.C. Yoga Bar is holding a class outside the brewery at 9 a.m. ($5).
