Laissez les bon temps rouler with Louisiana Springfest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery will have its annual Louisiana Springfest on both Saturday and Sunday.

Brag alert: In less than 24 hours I’m heading to New Orleans for the first time. I’m pretty excited to sample the finest cuisine the city has to offer while also enjoying an incredible music festival (oh, the irony of having to travel to another time zone to see Pearl Jam perform since they won’t in my own state. Thanks, Pat!)

But you don’t have to hop on a plane to experience the Big Easy culture, as Olde Mecklenburg Brewery has you covered with its annual Louisiana Springfest, which is taking place this weekend. There will be dishes and music with a Louisiana culture theme, and you’ll be able to enjoy great beer the whole time as well.

OMB is having crawdads flown in overnight straight from Louisiana for the freshest taste, and you’ll also be able to sample boiled shrimp, jambalaya and red beans and rice, among other Cajun culinary choices. The biergarten will feature live music from the Jazz Beat Band and the Neighbors.

While at Olde Mecklenburg, you can also try the brewery’s latest release, Hornet’s Nest Hefeweizen, which came out last week. A great beer for the season, you’ll get a light, crisp and refreshing taste with OMB’s Hefe – a pure and true German wheat (the subtle tastes of cloves and banana really make this beer stand out).

You can experience OMB’s Louisiana Springfest Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The event is free to the public (with obvious costs for food and beer, of course).
