Seventh Annual Mecktoberfest this weekend at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's annual Mecktoberfest runs Friday to Sunday

I’ve said in the past that Mecktoberfest is my favorite beer from Olde Mecklenburg. And I’m not alone. In fact, the brewery has created an entire festival around the beer.

OK, maybe I’m stretching the truth here a bit, but the annual Mecktoberfest is a chance to enjoy various German culture and food … and we can’t forget about the beer, right? This is the seventh year OMB has put this festival on, and this year the brewery has expanded it to three days, beginning this Friday and running until Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.

Let’s start with the most important part: the beer. No surprise that Mecktoberfest will be featured at Mecktoberfest, and Olde Mecklenburg will also have Copper, Captain James Jack Pilsner and Southside Weiss on tap. As a bonus, you’ll be able to check out OMB’s newest creation, the Bier-Trailer, which you’ll also see at upcoming festivals.

Of course, any good festival has to have good music and Mecktoberfest has that covered all weekend. In honor of the theme, Holzhackern German Band will be playing all three days – Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can also catch Matt Stratford Band (Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), Jared Allen (Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), Banana Pancakes (Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and West Bolz (Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m.).

There will also be a special Mecktoberfest food menu, along with the usual fine fare that OMB’s kitchen offers. This is a free event and parking is free as well provided you are in the Olde Mecklenburg lot. When that fills up, you can park in lots across and down the street for $5.
