Sugar Creek celebrates one year, Triple C releasing Up All Night, Oyster & Beer Festival at Sycamore and more

Sugar Creek Brewing's one-year anniversary party is this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

In between practicing your dabbing for Sunday, check out these craft beer events in Charlotte this weekend:

–It’s been one year since Sugar Creek has opened its doors and a lot has happened for the brewery in that time, including a silver medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championship for its Belgian Dubbel, several bottle releases and the brewing of one of the biggest beers Charlotte has ever seen, XV, coming in at 15 percent ABV.

All that and more will be celebrated this Saturday at the brewery’s one-year anniversary party, which begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m. There’ll be tons of things going on at Sugar Creek throughout the day, but let’s start with what’s most important: the beer.

As part of the celebration, Sugar Creek will be offering one-year anniversary flights. This will consist of the aforementioned XV, Golden Ticket Tripel (more on that in a second), Belgian Dubbel and Biere de Garde. The Golden Ticket Tripel, you might recall, came via a collaboration of four lucky “Ticket to Ride” winners who got to brew this beer with Sugar Creek. The result boasts “complex fruity and spicy flavors, supported by a moderately soft malt character,” according to Sugar Creek’s Facebook page. You’ll also be able to get a pint of Golden Ticket Tripel at the taproom on Saturday, along with other Sugar Creek beers.

There will be a “Sugar Fish” hot air balloon photo booth and prizes raffled off throughout the day. Sugar Creek’s party will feature live music as well, including Caleb Davis (noon to 3 p.m.), Heroes at Last (3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Queens Vice (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.). The kitchen at Sugar Creek will have paninis and salads for purchase, while The Plated Palette and Hiya Food Truck are scheduled to be at the anniversary party as well.

Triple C recently released White Blaze and is continuing the winter theme with the annual release of Up All Night, the brewery’s famed breakfast porter. Coming in at 10 percent ABV, this seasonal favorite is brewed with honey and chocolate malts, with local coffee added in the back end of the process.

Beginning at noon on Saturday, you’ll be able to purchase 22-ounce bombers of Up All Night (bottles are $9 each) at the taproom, with a one-case limit per customer. There will also be a limited amount of Up All Night T-shirts for sale, and the brewery is celebrating the release with live music from Pluto 4 Planet (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.), with OooWee BBQ on site as well. And yes, there is an upcoming bourbon barrel-aged Up All Night release as well. Look for more information on that in the coming weeks.

–Sycamore Brewing is hosting its first-ever Oyster & Beer festival this Saturday beginning at noon and running until 8 p.m. This will be fresh seafood from Southeast Crab Feast with oysters, snow crab and shrimp as the choices. Online tickets sold out pretty quickly (this is Sycamore after all), but tickets will be available at the door. Those who purchase tickets will get a guaranteed plate of food (cost not included with ticket) and one beer. (Also, if you just want to come to drink beer, no tickets are needed). The festival will also feature live music from Late Nite Special.

–This Saturday begins the first of four straight “Good Morning” breakfasts at Good Bottle Co. The first one will be with Roots Farm Food, whose menu for the event includes a Nashville hot chicken biscuit, Roots hash, Autumn Frittata, breakfast burrito, cinnamon turnovers with N.C. mountain apples and Plain Jane’s scrambled eggs. Follow Good Bottle on Instagram for the taplist, which should be posted in the next day.

–Finally, don’t forget about Salud Beer Shop’s sour beer festival, Release the Funk 3: Funkonia. There are less than 20 tickets remaining and this event has sold out each year, so if you want to go I’d buy tickets now as it’s unlikely walk-up tickets will be an option. Also, Salud has posted the taplist for its Pre-Release the Funk party, which begins at the bottle shop on Friday at 7 p.m. featuring beers from Burial, Fonta Flora and Wicked Weed.
